WHAT: On select Thursdays through August visitors can enjoy a fun carriage ride around downtown Staunton! Classic Carriage will be on site at the Wharf from 5:30-8:30 p.m. offering rides and photo ops with their popular draft horses Sonny & Cher. Availability is subject to change based on weather conditions.

TICKETS: Children 6 & under: FREE when accompanied by an adult. Ages 7-12: $2. Ages 13 & over: $5

Book signing features first in new sci-fi series

With the recent success of box office hits like Sherlock Holmes (2009) and The Prestige (2006), it’s clear that the fresh stylistic movement known as steampunk is becoming increasingly popularized in mainstream culture.

On Saturday, May 7, Bookworks in Downtown Staunton will be hosting the first book-signing for Phoenix Rising, a rip-roaring, sexy romp by steampunk aficionados Pip Ballantine & Tee Morris and the first installment of the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences novel series.

Art Center planning Golden Gala to mark 50 years

The Staunton Augusta Art Center announces its Golden Gala and biennial art auction set for May 21, 2011, at 6pm at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel and Conference Center.

Tickets are available to the general public for the dinner, auction and program which will celebrate the Staunton Augusta Art Center’s 50th year of operation. The auction phase of the evening is a biennial event which serves as an important fundraiser for the non-profit organization whose mission is to make the enjoyment and creation of visual art available to everyone and to support artists by providing them venues to teach and to exhibit and sell their work.

Staunton Augusta Art Center announces spring art classes for adults and children. All classes are taught in the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art, 20 S. New Street, Staunton, across from the Visitor Center and parking garage in historic Staunton.

Art Center to open new exhibit

Staunton Augusta Art Center announces the exhibition Primordial Shifts, paintings by Kaye Lipscomb April 15 through June 5, 2011, with an opening reception Friday, April 15, 5-7 p.m.

The Art Center is located in the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art, 20 S. New Street, Staunton, across from the Visitor Center and parking garage in historic Downtown Staunton.

Gallery hours are 10-5 Monday-Friday, 10-4 Saturday, and 1-4 Sunday. There is no admission charge.
