Bridgewater College Chorale to tour Ireland, Scotland

Following commencement on Sunday, May 15, the 24-voice Bridgewater College Chorale will leave May 17 for a 12-day concert tour in Ireland and Scotland. The ensemble will perform in prestigious venues in Belfast, Dublin, and Edinburgh. President George Cornelius and his wife, Susan, will travel with the group along with some of the college’s alumni.

BC professor’s opera to premiere on May 5

Eros and Psyche, an opera by Larry Taylor, associate professor of music at Bridgewater College, will premier at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, in the Carter Center for Worship and Music.

Eros and Psyche, an opera in two acts on a libretto by Tom Noe, an Indiana-based poet and playwright, is based on the Eros/Psyche myth in which the god of love falls tragically in love with the most beautiful woman in the world.

Author of Virtually You to speak at Bridgewater College

Elias Aboujaoude, author of Virtually You: The Dangerous Powers of the E-Personality, will speak on Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

Aboujaoude, a Stanford University psychiatrist and director of the Impulse Control Disorders Clinic and the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Clinic, has conducted a study on Internet addiction and has treated patients whose lives have been disturbed by their cyber lifestyle. His talk examines the effects of the virtual world and what he calls the “big social experiment” people engage in online.

BC senior makes directing debut

Katelyn E. Stackpole is making her directing debut with “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” by Alan Ball on April 1–3, in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

The curtain will rise at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for seniors and non-BC students. To make reservations call 540- 828-5361. This production is recommended for mature audiences.

Ethlie Ann Vare to present ‘Mothers of Invention’ at BC

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Ethlie Ann Vare will speak on “Mothers of Invention” on Wednesday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.

Vare will present an entertaining account of the “hidden” women behind familiar products, discoveries and innovations, such as the modern dishwasher, the windshield wiper and the disposable diaper.
